Farmers Market Sunshade | Ann Arbor | Call for Artist | 2024

My vision for the farmer’s market sunshade is to create an innovative site-specific installation that carries a strong personality. My proposal is inspired by the state flower of Michigan, the Apple Blossom “one of the most fragrant and beautiful flowered species of apple.”

The open sky will be my canvas; lightweight (aluminum) metal contours will be filled with colorful highly durable exterior-grade fabric. In a way the sunshade will look like a contemporary stained glass where the light will pass by the fabric and will cast a shadow in a colored hue. I plan to research and propose aesthetically appealing, durable material with a high level of recycled content. My idea is to create an immersive artwork that people would walk under, pace it, experience it, almost dance with it.

The sunshade will incorporate the existing festoon lights. Additional energy efficient lights could be integrated later. Apple blossoms vary in size between 8’ and 16’.

I was thrilled to be invited by Palm Angels to collaborate on their Spring Summer 2020 Fashion Show for Milan Fashion week.
